First ever World Cricket Business Forum hailed a great success!


Held at the Royal Garden Hotel in London, the World Cricket Business Forum was a great success. Following on from the LG ICC Awards held the evening prior to the Forum, the conference ensured the highest level of attendees in the first ever conference gathering.

The two day Forum brought together over 150 cricket business professionals from 5 different continents. A high level audience of Chief Executives, Commercial Directors and Managing Directors attended from sponsors, associations, counties/clubs, suppliers and manufacturers, broadcasters as well as current and past players.

Representatives attended from the ICC, ESPN, New Zealand Cricket, Sri Lanka Cricket, Cricket Scotland, Cricket Peru, LG Electronics, Hero Honda, Castrol, The Cricket Foundation, TAM Media Research Pvt Ltd, Cricket Ireland, Cricket Board of Maldives, Cricket South Africa, Cricket Australia, Aon, PepsiCo International, Zimbabwe Cricket, MoneyGram International, IMG Media, England and Wales Cricket Board, Sierra Leone Cricket Association, , Pakistan Cricket Board, West Indies Cricket Board, Hong Kong Cricket Association, Marylebone Cricket Club, Cricket Netherlands - KNCB, Worcestershire County Cricket Club, Cricket Kenya, Emirates Cricket Board, Essex Cricket, Warwickshire County Cricket Club and more!

The first day of the conference kicked off with opening speeches from Haroon Lorgat, Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council and David Collier, Chief Executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board.

The opening panel discussion focused on strategies for differentiating the three formats of the game, which proved an upbeat assessment of the current health of cricket and its prospects for growth.

The interactive panel was followed by an on stage interview with South Africa star Hashim Amla, led by Kevin Roberts, Editorial Director from SportBusiness. Hashim Amla affirmed this positive outlook for the game. Experts including Sanjay Manjrekar, James Sutherland and Ed Smith all contributed innovative and fresh ideas on shaping the future of the sport.

Outside of the Forum programme, delegates were networking and holding various side meetings in the coffee and refreshment area.

The first day was wrapped up with a cocktail drinks reception where delegates could mingle and network with the exceptional gathering of top cricket industry professionals.

Day two saw presentations from sports outside of the industry, including one from Dan Markham, VP Media Distribution at the NBA. Dan previously worked for Cricket Australia. His presentation was well received as he was perfectly placed to present his views on the best practices used in basketball. His presentation was very well received.

The day also covered effective sponsorship strategies, a session on maintaining the integrity and spirit of cricket, capitalising on broadcasting through multiple platforms and maximising the exposure of cricket through digital and social media. The Forum closed on a light hearted note with a keynote speech from legendary Australian All Rounder Alan Davidson.
