Maria is an internationally recognised corporate responsibility and sustainability leader. Prior to founding Sustainability Advisory Group, she held pivotal roles at The Body Shop International, KPMG and AccountAbility and during her 20 year career in this field has made pioneering contributions in the areas of strategy development, stakeholder engagement, human capital development, supply chain management, reporting and assurance.
Maria has made instrumental contributions to various sustainability standards and initiatives – notably AccountAbility and its AA1000 Series of Standards. She sat on the founding board of Ethical Trading Initiative and is a member of Global Reporting Initiative’s Technical Advisory Committee. She is also an advisor to a number of sustainability start ups internationally ranging from green infrastructure technology to human capital development.
Maria is a sought-after conference speaker and has run numerous highly successful training courses, seminars and workshops internationally to diverse audiences. A selection of her clients includes AVIVA, BBC, BSkyB, The Co-operative Group, The Gap Inc, ING Bank, Nakheel, Nike, Novo Nordisk, Pfizer, Samsung, Shell, Siemens and Westfield. Maria has been active in the Middle East for over four years successfully advising regional companies on a variety of CSR and sustainability issues.
Maria’s publications include The Stakeholder Corporation – A Blueprint for Maximizing Stakeholder Value, endorsed by global leaders as a seminal work. Her recent number three ranking in the advisory category of CSR International’s global Top 100 CSR leaders reflects her profound and continuing impact in this field.
