| Guidelines for Running a Workshop |
Running a workshop with IIR allows our audience to access one-on-one attention and enable them not only to discuss their specific corporate challenges with an expert, but also to share experiences with their peers in a friendly and more intimate environment. We encourage them to take advantage of this opportunity to find practical solutions to their company's needs. We also hope that it provides you a chance to meet your peers and take advantage of the networking and learning opportunity the conference aims to provide.
Although you may have put together workshops before, we hope you find the following as a good refresher of your role, although please feel free to bring your own style to the event. |

Overall Role of the Workshop Leader
Ask participants to introduce themselves to each other - creating a friendly, informal environment where all participants are able to share their views and ideas.
Introduce the topic and highlight the hot issues to be discussed, use case studies to reinforce learning wherever possible.
Promote Interactivity - Use group exercises and discussion sessions to increase the take away value.
After each break we recommend a brief interactive activity.
Ask delegates to fill in their evaluation form at the end of the workshop. |
Preparing the session materials Please ensure that your workshop matches the abstract agreed with the conference director and published on the brochure.
If you are also a speaker during the main conference, take care not to duplicate materials as some or all of the participants may be the same.
Closer to the conference we will be able to give you a better idea of the titles of delegates participating and the industries they come from to enable you to tailor the workshop wherever possible. It is important to remember that the delegates come from different backgrounds and have differing levels of experience and invariably, English will not be the mother tongue.
Keep slides to a minimum, as delegates can only absorb a certain amount of information and need points to be reinforced through practical experience and anecdotal evidence as much as possible. Build in as much interactivity as possible. |
Opening the Workshop Please aim to arrive approximately an hour, before the workshop is due to start.
Before the opening of the workshop, you may wish to chat to delegates to get a feel for what specific benefits people are looking to take away.
Take a quick look at the delegate list to see if you recognise anyone you can 'draw on' during the workshop. Making Your Workshop Interactive Making Your Workshop Interactive

Closing the Workshop At the end of the session draw on the major learning points and state the benefits delegates should take away with them; also thank the participants.
Thank you very much for your help in making this workshop as successful as possible. We appreciate that a huge amount of energy and effort goes into making these sessions a memorable and useful experience for all concerned. We do hope and anticipate that you also benefit from your time working with IIR. |
