Ayo Teriba

Ayo is the CEO of Economic Associates (EA) and Member of the National Economic Intelligence Committee (NEIC). At EA, he provides strategic direction for ongoing consulting and research work on the outlook of the Nigerian economy, focusing on: global, national, regional, state, and sector issues. Research output at EA has included a 400-page subscription report (now in three-volumes) on the economic, sectoral, fiscal, and well-being profiles of Nigeria's 36 states and the federal capital territory. His previous engagements has included a faculty role at the Lagos Business School, executive roles at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce, ThisDay Newspaper Group, and UAC of Nigeria, and consultancy roles for Coca Cola Nigeria, DfID, Federal Ministry of Information, Senate Committee on Banking and Finance, several State Governments, USAID, and World Bank, Visiting Scholar at the IMF Research Department in Washington DC. He has received research grants from Ford Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation, and chaired the steering committee of the Money, Macroeconomic and Finance Research Group of the Money Market Association of Nigeria. He received B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Ibadan with Sir James Robertson Prize and Medal, UAC Prize in Economics, and Economics Departmental Prize as all-round best economics graduate in 1988, M. Sc. Economics from Ibadan in 1990, an M.Phil. Economics of Developing Countries as a Cambridge-DfID Scholar at the University of Cambridge in 1992, and a Ph.D. in Applied Econometrics and Monetary Economics from University of Durham in 2003.

Derrick Roper
Chief Executive Officer, Novare® Equity Partners

Derrick Roper is a qualified actuary, having graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa as well as being a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in England. Before joining Novare® he worked for a number of large financial services companies in South Africa including Sanlam and Gensec Asset Management. He spent some time in the United Kingdom where he gained experience in investment product development for the pension fund market. Derrick co-founded Novare® in October 2000. He is also a regular commentator on fund industry topics in financial media and has addressed numerous conferences across the globe. As CEO of Novare® Equity Partners, his areas of particular expertise include asset-liability matching, strategic asset allocation, as well as alternative investments and private equity in Southern and Sub-Saharan Africa. He has 20 years’ experience in the industry.

Derrick is an executive director on the board of directors for Novare® Holdings.

Henry Ationu

Henry Ationu is the Executive Director, Business Development of UBA Metropolitan Life Insurance Limited. He has over 20 years working experience in the Financial Services Industry spanning core areas of Banking and Insurance. His exposure in Insurance cut across key areas including; Life Underwriting, marketing, Agency operation, Pensions & Deposit Administrations, Broking operations, Actuarial Services, and General Management. He started his career in insurance with United Nigeria Insurance Company (UNIC) Plc in 1990 as graduate trainee (NYSC), and subsequently worked with various companies including Crusader Insurance ,African Development Insurance Company (ADIC),International Standard Insurers (ISI) ,and Union Assurance Company(a subsidiary of Union Bank Plc).Henry joined Standard Trust Bank Plc (now UBA plc) in 1999.

At UBA Plc ,Henry worked at various capacities in different sections of the Bank, including; Financial Institutions & Savings, Treasury Marketing, Consumer Banking, Retail Banking, and Branch management. Following the advent of Universal Banking in Nigeria, and the adoption of Bancassurance strategy by the Bank, Henry was appointed the Managing Director of UBA Insurance Company Limited in 2004, and subsequently the pioneer Managing Director/Chief Executive of UBA Insurance Brokers Limited (UBAIB) in January 2007, a position he held until his appointment as an Executive member of the Board of Directors of UBA Metropolitan Life Insurance Limited in September 2007.

Henry holds a Bachelor of Science (Bsc) degree in Actuarial Sciences and Two Masters degrees in Finance (Msc), and Management (MBA) all from University of Lagos. He is also an Alumnus of both Lagos Business School, and the University Of Cape Town Graduate School Of Business. He is an Associate Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute(ACII) London.

Olanrewju Yusuf
Head of Revenue Assurance & Fraud Management, Etisalat Nigeria

Olanrewaju Yusuf is a seasoned telecom practitioner with extensive experience in audit, assurance and financial advisory services, with passion for operational excellence.

He works for Etisalat, Nigeria’s forth GSM operator which commenced business in 2008 and now has about 11m customers.

As Head of Revenue Assurance and Fraud Management, he is responsible for end-to-end business assurance, fraud prevention, data integrity, and revenue risk management.

Olanrewaju holds a bachelors degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering, he is a Chartered Accountant (Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria), and hold a Masters degree in Business Administration from the prestigious Lagos Business School.

Robert Tashima
Regional Editor for Africa, Oxford Business Group

With a background in political economy and international trade, Robert Tashima joined Oxford Business Group (OBG) in early 2007 as an Editorial Manager, becoming a Regional Editor in November 2008. In this capacity, he is now in charge of web and print editorial for OBG’s Africa projects across the Maghreb and Africa.

While at OBG, Robert has conducted extensive field research on emerging markets in the Middle East and Africa, focusing on political risk, regulatory issues and foreign investment, primarily in resource-rich countries. During this time he has given interviews for a number of local media throughout the region, as well as international outlets including the BBC, France 24 and Reuters, has spoken at conferences in both moderator and keynote speaker capacity, in addition to authoring editorial pieces for regional periodicals.

Prior to joining OBG, he worked in New York and London, analysing political trends in Central and Southern Africa. Previously, he worked as a legislative aide for the California State Legislature in the United States, where he was responsible for drafting and negotiating tax, trade and business laws. Robert has also conducted research on business development and public financing issues in the United States at the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Institute.

He holds a BA in Political Science and French from the University of California at Berkeley and a Certificat d’Etudes Politiques from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Bordeaux, France. He received his MSc in International Relations at the London School of Economics. Robert is fluent in French.
