Course Timings

Registration will be at 7:30 on Day One. Each day will start promptly at 8:00 and finish at 15:30 with breaks for refreshments and lunch at appropriate times..

 Day One

Administrator To Manager – The Transition Phase

• Identifying the new skills you need to develop to become an outstanding supervisor or manager

• Establishing the purpose, structure and objectives for a meeting
• The importance of meetings as a method of communication
• Potential problems associated with meetings
• Drawing up and circulating an agenda prior to the meeting and organising a pre-meeting if necessary
• Accurately recording the content, actions, accountability and deadlines during a meeting
• The importance of following up actions

Evaluation And Continuous Learning
• Continuous improvement to increase efficiency and effectiveness
• The importance of reflection, feedback and celebrating your team’s successes

Day Three

Assertion And Respect
• Recognising the importance of adopting more assertive behaviours in your new role as a supervisor or manager
• Understanding the difference between aggressive, passive and assertive behaviours
• Learning to say ‘no’ when necessary and to handle criticism in a positive way
• Tackling difficult situations and approaching challenging conversations
• Partnering with senior people and developing trusting relationships

• The five ‘W’s’ – key areas to consider when planning a presentation for a senior manager
• How to elicit information from your manager to create the body of the presentation accurately

Introduction To Performance Management

• The importance of planning for one-to-one conversations for performance development reviews
• Conducting a performance review and coaching to improve performance and motivation

Managing Change
• What is organisational change?
• A useful change management model
• The psychology of change and the manager’s role at each stage of the process
• The importance of goal setting and identifying clear objectives
• Becoming a role-model for solution-based thinking

Coaching...Make It A Habit!
• The key skills used in coaching practice and the benefits of coaching
• Clarifying the differences between coaching, mentoring, training, teaching, consulting and counseling
• The key skills of both coaching and mentoring
• The TGROW Model and how/where it can be used i.e. action planning, relationship issues and decision-making
• The purpose and power of coaching to empower, encourage personal responsibility and commit to action
• Coaching demonstration by the trainer
• Practical session – three-way coaching sessions with feedback
