Sheikh Mohammed Bin Essa Al-Khalifa Chief Executive, Bahrain Economic Development Board
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Essa Al-Khalifa is the Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB). He was appointed to this role in June 2005 following 10 years working as a close and trusted aide of His Highness Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince of Bahrain, eventually rising to become President of His Highness the Crown Prince’s Court.
As CE of the EDB, Sheikh Mohammed is responsible for ensuring the continued growth and stimulation of the Bahraini economy and establishing its supremacy over its competitors. The EDB works in close partnership with Government bodies and private-sector companies, creating the optimum business environment for Bahrain to attract investment from abroad as well as encouraging the strong development of Bahraini companies.
In addition to his responsibilities at the EDB, Sheikh Mohammed is the Chairman of Bahrain Development Bank and is heavily involved in His Highness the Crown Prince’s initiatives to liberalise the telecommunications sector.
A keen motoring enthusiast, he was Vice President of the Bahrain Motor Club (now the Bahrain Motor Federation) and played a crucial role in the successful bid to bring an annual Formula One Grand Prix to the Kingdom of Bahrain. Sheikh Mohammed is also Chairman of Young Arab Leaders-Bahrain, a pan-Arab network of men and women focused on developing a prosperous Arab future.
Sheikh Mohammad holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economic Theory from the American University in Washington D.C. and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Studies from the London School of Economics.
